PUBLIC INTERVENTION | EXILE IS A HARD JOB, ANTALYA

NİL YALTER
‘Exile is a Hard Job’ is an ongoing project Nil Yalter began in 1975, featuring a series of fly posters of immigrants painted over with the slogan of the same phrase. The title of the work is drawn from a poem by Nâzım Hikmet, an important Turkish poet who spent many years in exile in Russia. To this day, Exile is a Hard Job has been realised over many countries and continents.

Galerist is pleased to participate in the realisation of Nil Yalter's installation titled 'Exile is a Hard Job’; realised in Antalya in February 2024, the project focused on the Ukrainian migrant population in Turkey, which is often overlooked in comparison to other waves of migration.

An artist’s publication focusing on this installation that spreads over many years will launch in April, concurrently with the Venice Biennial where Yalter will receive the Golden Lion Award for Lifetime Achievement. Published by Walther & Franz König, editor of the book is Eda Berkmen, and the project coordinator is Ekin Kohen.
