Submission: Bennu Gerede
Bennu Gerede’s first exhibition “Submission” is in Galerist during the month of November.
Gerede invites the viewer to question the realities of Turkish society who wants to be defined as “modern” and “contemporary” through the photographs of natural environments reflecting rooted traditions.
The artist’s photographs examine contemporary Turkish woman, her career and the value of her intellectual existence only through the physical functions she demonstrates.
In Gerede’s work, the utilization of old Muslim traditions refers to the consumption of modern woman as an accessory emptied out of value and characteristics.
Women who are dressed by famous fashion designers illustrate the expectations of the contemporary time. In her photography, Gerede lays out the victimization of woman and her secondary position in a society run by man.
Women, described as “Modern” are being represented by Şenay Akay, Asena, Ece Sükan, Tuba Ünsal, Demet Yoruç and Özgü Namal. Mehmet Günsur and Nejat Işler are also taking part in Gerede’s work.
