Suck: Evren Tekinoktay
The artist Evren Tekinoktay will be in Galerist with her first solo exhibition in Turkey. The exhibition titled ‘Suck’ coming up to the Turkish art scene in 6 April and 7 May.
Evren Tekinoktay was educated in GerritRietveldAcademy (Amsterdam) in the College of Art and Design, Janvan EyckAcademy (Maastricht-Holland) in the PostgraduateCenter for Fine Art, Design and Theory and the RoyalDanishArtAcademy.
Cut out, painted, copied or sewn and at the end with the transformed surfaces in her multi-layered artworks, the artist presents a visual richness. Generally caricaturizing the images in a humorous, but melancholic form of expression, she treats the shifting female identity in the historical process and the conflicting ideals in the female sexual identity. Evren Tekinoktay gathers images from the newspapers, magazines, flyers, popular advertisements, old photographs and film snapshots of 70’s and 80’s. In 2003 the artist opened an underwear boutique named Tekinoktay Finest Lingerie. In the boutique with the objects like old fashioned perfume bottles and vintage jewelry, Tekinoktay documents the changing female identity. Thus the artist creates accessibility not only for the art buyers but also for the public.
One of the most famous art collectors, Charles Saatchi, has art works by Evren Tekinoktay in his collection. Tekinoktay is the first Turkish artist to be displayed in the Saatchi Collection, which is one of the building blocks of our time. The artist will be taking part in The 20th Jubilee exhibit in October, at the Saatchi Gallery in London. Acquiring a wider opinion about the artist and the artworks will be possible with the exhibition of Evren Tekinoktay titled ‘Suck’ in Galerist.
