Don't Wait for the People, We Take Place in the Future: Güçlü Öztekin
“Let the final sentence be: Look at the image, it’s playing us.” Güçlü Öztekin
Galerist is proud to present the recent works of Guclu Oztekin, one of the Galerists youngest artists, who gained viewer’s attention with his painting, performance and video works. Don’t Expect People, This Takes Place in the Future will be Guclu Oztekin’s third solo exhibition at Galerist and will open between 11th September and 30th September.
Similar to his previous exhibitions, Don’t Expect People, This Takes Place in the Future takes on the same performative cause-and-effect action that strongly reveals the relationship between the artist and the paper. According to the artist, the relationship between the materials and himself and the materials in their everyday context play a significant role in the work. As Oztekin explains the tape, which has been used to hang pictures on walls for years eventually, becomes apart of the art work itself over time. In his own work, the tape that is removed from the paper is recycled, as waste and the pry bar used to peel off the tape in turn becomes part of the work.
In his view, Oztekin displays the economics of his artwork and feels that this exhibition forms a simulation of the present economy arising from daily life. With this simulation, the artist provides a rich selection of recent works, while bringing his work environment to the forefront of the exhibition space.
