Galerist is happy to announce TUNCA’s participation in the Artport Tel Aviv artist residency programme during the period from March to April 2018.
Artport Tel Aviv was founded in 2011 aiming to be a home for emerging artists and a significant milestone in their artistic career. It is a nonprofit organization promoting Israeli contemporary visual art, its core being a residency program for Israeli and international artists. Through additional activities such as conferences, lectures, exhibitions, professional workshops for artists and an annual art book fair, Artport serves the general public and the local art scene, promoting relations between art and society.
Born in 1982 in İzmir, TUNCA graduated from Mimar Sinan University, Faculty of Fine Arts. His multi-faceted practice includes canvas painting, sculpture, installation works, video and performance. He constructs a world of images departing from historical memory, cultural identity and political facts. Historical sublimation and ideological constructs of social and political events are central issues in his practice. In 2005, parallel to the 9th Istanbul Biennial, as part of the performance titled ‘Floating Slum House’ the artist spends a week, together with Guido Casaretto, in a floating slum house they have built on the Golden Horn and they document this process. TUNCA participated in group exhibitions at various museums and art institutions including the 4th International Çanakkale Biennial, CerModern, santralistanbul, KuadGallery, Elgiz Museum, Siemens Art Gallery, Kasa Gallery, Tel Aviv University Genia Schreiber Gallery. His most recent solo exhibiton titled ‘Terra Amata’ took place at Galerist (Istanbul) in September 2017.
