Galerist is pleased to present the works of Lara Ögel, Merve İşeri and Defne Tesal, three artists in awe of the cosmos. This selection brings together their distinct yet complementary practices, inviting us to contemplate connections across the universe.
In her ceramic works, Lara Ögel treats the medium as a mystery, allowing various glazes to undergo transformation during the firing process. She infuses gold, a key element in alchemy, into certain pieces. Her ceramics, bridging the realms of sky and the earth, occasionally take on amorphous shapes, evoking dreamlike entities that transition into landscapes. In her Melodies of the Moonchild and The Three Sources series, inspired by the 10th-century alchemist Ibn Umayl, gold features prominently once more. This time, employing traditional embossing and gilding techniques, she crafts book covers for imaginary narratives, transcending written language.
Merve İşeri, on the other hand, delves into the ambiguity between nature and humanity, grounding her works in deeply personal expressions of abstracted landscapes. İşeri's canvases, marked with purposeful symbols and patterns, create a symphony of meaning that dances between the tangible and the ethereal. Her works from the ink composition series focus on the phenomena of images occurring inside the human eye, offering a glimpse into the cosmos within. Creating a personal universe of symbolisms, these works are perceptions of elsewhere-echoing the infinite nature of the unknown.
Defne Tesal's production is based on the repetitive movements; her paintings, drawings, and woven sculptures consist of the repetitive gestures of both herself and the materials she uses. Against the constantly forward moving pace of our time, Tesal bases her work on the circular, rhythmic, fluid, and static movements.
Through their exploration of cosmic connections, the works of these three artists intertwine, spanning from the earth to the stars, blending into one captivating narrative.
