Galerist is pleased to announce TUNCA’s participation in the multidisciplinary exhibition and series of events titled ‘Table Manners: A Feast of Visual Arts, Theater and Culinary’ with a selection from his project ‘Desire’(2014) along with works from fellow artists Hamza Halloubi, Hans Op de Beeck, Maya Bloch, Michael Borremans, Tsuyoshi Ozawa, Micha Laury, Paul McCarthy, Cindy Sherman and so on. The show will be on view between 8 March – 30 June at the Tel Aviv University Genia Schreiber Gallery.
The ‘Desire’ Project can be defined in terms of the political, social and cultural outcomes of taste. In this series, TUNCA who went through a professional culinary training in order to realize this project, departs from the favorite foods of prominent leaders who shaped 20th Century. From Castro to Churchill, to Atatürk and Mao, the artist sheds spotlight on the tables of 12 politicians who reshaped the world map. With his multilevel language that uses painting, photography, video, performance and sculpture, the artist both establishes an interdisciplinary dialog, and focuses on essential details shadowed between the lines of the history. While reminding its viewer that gastronomical culture is a sea of concepts loaded with various meanings, the project also emphasizes taste as social memory, while it remains non-documentary and non-educational.
